Find Your Reason for Traveling

Finding the reason for traveling gives one the motivation to go beyond limitations and explore the unfamiliar. Whatever the reason, it’s personal, unique, and inherent to one’s character. For some, it’s the thrill of adventure; for others, it's the quest for knowledge; and for some, it’s simply a chance to break free from routine.
For me, in the beginning, it was the thrill of adventure. Then it became about witnessing how civilizations have evolved over time—adapting and intertwining with each other, revealing the ways future is built on pillars of past.
Traveling broadened my cultural, geopolitical, and social understanding, teaching me to view the world through a richer lens.

Easing into Solo Travel

The thought of solo travel can be daunting for many, but there are ways to ease into it. Start by going out for dinner by yourself; it’s a great way to build confidence in your own company. When ready to travel, choose a city that is both crowded and safe to help you feel more at ease.

Consider joining groups like "G Adventures" or "Flash Pack," which cater specifically to solo travelers. While I haven't used these personally, I've met others who have, and they've found them to be a great way to connect with like-minded adventurers.

You can also join solo traveler groups on platforms like Facebook or "Meetup" to find community and support for your journey.

Breaking the Ice

As an introvert, I completely understand the hesitation that comes with starting and maintaining conversations. For the longest time, my biggest challenge was figuring out

what to say and how to keep the dialogue flowing. It's especially daunting if you're naturally reserved.

In the beginning, I relied on googling conversation starters, keeping them handy until it felt more natural. Over time, with more experiences under my belt, I developed my own stories and viewpoints to share, making interactions smoother and more genuine.

Is Solo Travel Lonely?

Solo travel needn't be lonely. Hostels are a great way to meet fellow travelers, offering both shared spaces and single accommodations, so one can enjoy privacy while still having the option to connect with others. I’ve met some amazing co-travelers and shared itineraries, conversations, travel tips, drinks, and meals. These experiences have led to unforgettable memories and lasting friendships.

Of course, there are moments when you might find yourself alone. You can join local group tours. I have personally used apps such as "GetYourGuide," "TripAdvisor," and “Airbnb Experiences” to find local tours where I met other solo travelers. Over time, I’ve learned to appreciate my own company, growing calmer and more patient with each journey.

Be Curious

Be an explorer. Focus on collecting elements that tell the story of your travels. Observe patterns, sights, sounds, smells, and textures. What stories do the people living here share? What are their belief systems, and how did these beliefs form? What is the history, and how has it influenced the current social and political structure? Are there any peculiarities in the streets or buildings? Explore the museums, savor the local cuisine, and uncover the cultural expressions —the bazaars, the dances, the music, and the people.

Take your own photo with a selfie-tripod

As a solo traveler, I always struggle getting a good shot of me in the photo. Though, tripods are not allowed inside churches and crowded places but this has helped me get picture perfect photos the way I like.

Don't miss the food tours

I am a foody. I come from a culture where everything is ordered for the table and we share our food. One of the biggest disadvantage of traveling solo is can't try different dishes. Local food tours have come to my rescue. I would have never explored these places on my own. the host most of time gives good recommendations. I mostly book my food tours on Airbnb experiences
